Mini-Boot Camp for Writers of Commercial Fiction

This will be a hands-on workshop for students writing commercial fiction (mystery, romance, chick lit, etc.), taught by multi-published author Roberta Isleib. Participants must bring copies of their first ten pages to class. They will have their work-in-progress critiqued and will critique the work of others.  The first session will focus on how to keep readers engaged from page one: How to craft an opening scene that hooks the reader. The second session will focus on how to create interesting, complex  characters and will also provide the opportunity to read revisions from session one. The business of writing and tips to avoid writers block will also be discussed.

Clinical psychologist Roberta Isleib is the author of eight mysteries published by Berkley Prime Crime. Her books and stories have been short-listed for Agatha, Anthony, and Macavity awards. She is a past president of Sisters in Crime and currently the chair of the best novel Edgar committee for Mystery Writers of America.
